It is located on a rocky outcrop from which dominates the village of Crognaleto. The name derives from the proximity to the locality Fonte San Salvatore, on which stood the Roman Tibbla (from which derives "Tibia" precisely), but also from an ancient legend handed down orally according to which the Church was built in the early seventeenth century by such Bernardo Paolini of Amatrice as a thanksgiving and an act of devotion to Our Lady for having saved him from a disastrous fall from the adjacent cliff, resolved only by the fracture of the leg.
