The cities in Teramo district are the ideal destination mountain lovers. Most of the area is crossed by the Appennini mountain chains, well known for his grassy slopes.
In the area there is the highest summit of whole chain, Corno Grande, with his 2912 m.
The territory founds big part of its economy on the primary sector, but in the last years it is developing an economy based on tourism, that is indeed the best way to give value to the surrounding, that is rich of religious, history and cultural traditions. Inside the hinterland villages there are signs of a medieval past.
In Tossicia, it can still be found important families coat of arms, and it was also the ancient capital of Valle Siciliana.
Torricella Sicura has an historical centre with a great archaeological value.
What makes unique the places it is the great ability of the population to the adaptation under the most hostile conditions, as the case of Pietracamela, a little village built on the slopes of Corno Grande, which it entirely detaches in the middle of the luxuriant wood with roads and houses made of stone. It's also worth to know: Cortino, well known for its naturalistic beauty and the variegated wood; Fano Adriano for manifold itineraries, of various intensity, for the excursionists; Rocca Santa Maria for the famous tourist destination Il Ceppo, and the harvest of mushrooms. They are areas in which it is developing a sustainable and respectful receptiveness of surroundings, that allows to enjoy of an uncontaminated environment. The Park area is also famous for a lot of animals and vegetables species present in the territory such as wolfs, the chamois of Abruzzo, the bucks, the royal eagles, but also chestnut trees, beech trees and oaks. Crognaleto for examples has got a variegated biodiversity inside its 124,30 km2 of surface, or Valle Castellana famous for the water courses and the chestnuts.
Almost all the places are easily attainable through the highway A24, for example Colledara that enjoys of a suggestive panoramic position of the front side Appennini chain.
Our mountains are not only uncontaminated nature and castled suburbs, they are also places of great spirituality, such as San Gabriele dell’Addolorata Sanctuary that welcomes pilgrims coming from the whole world, and the small suburb of Castel Castagna whose principal attraction is Santa Maria di Ronzano Abbey.
The inside areas have respectable gastronomy vocation, due to the promotion of typical and genuine culinary products, for example Campli and its traditional Porchetta Italica, and Montorio al Vomano that offers a complete selection of the best culinary tradition of the territory such us “chitarra con pallottine”, “timballo”, “bocconotti” and “li pastarell”. Many centers are expression of a secular and refined art for example the traditional Maiolica art of Castelli, also known as the capital of Abruzzo ceramic arts, that it boasts all over the world a long and glorious tradition in this sector.
