Vomano valley is situated in Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park territory, between two thick places, respectively to the south and the north of river basin. Up to Montorio al Vomano the valley is coasted by the highway road  80 de Gran Sasso d’Italia and characterized by the presence of hydroelectric plants. The economy of the valley is predominantly agricultural and industrial. There are three hydroelectric plants of Enel with relative artificial lakes: the plant of Provvidenza, the plant of Piaganini and the plant Ignazio Silone (once called St. Giacomo).

The valley was crossed by the ancient Via Cecilia (a ramification of Salaria) that, via Passo delle Capannelle, continued toward Interamnia (today Teramo) and Hadria (the actual Atri).

The valley today is crossed by highway road 80 and 150.

The valley ends at the mouth of the river, situated between Roseto degli Abruzzi and Pineto.
